Pennsylvania high school football rankings ending nearly as they began

Every Sunday eve our expert staff meets to discuss the weekends results and then they adjust the rankings accordingly.

Well, it’s hard to believe we are entering the last week of the season. Seems like yesterday we released our preseason rankings. Speaking of which, our staff released their title game week rankings and low and behold, it looks familiar. They’ve been on point all year, but of course there has been a surprise team or two. You can see those rankings here: https://pafootballnews.com/rankings/pennsylvania-football-news-2022-pre-season-rankings/

In 6A, Harrisburg took a spill early on in the season, but they’re right where they started the season at number 2. SJP stayed in that one slot all year. Both State and Garnet were top ten teams.

For 5A, well, there’s always a surprise team every year. This year we had two. (More on the other later). The staff came close, but didn’t see Pine-Richland with first year head coach John LeDonne turning their season around. LeDonne pulled up his shorts, made a change at QB and boom, here they are at number two! In the one slot is the team that started there, Imhotep. They’re coming off a win over the team that replaced them at #1, Upper Darby.

The 4A rankings never changed at the top. Aliquippa and McDevitt rode that bus all the was to the rematch. ACC is up a spot from where they started, and Crestwood is a bit of a surprise.

In 3A, Belle Vernon was the consensus #1 to start the year. Two losses bumped them down one early on, but the staff still felt they’d end up at the #1 slot, though it took a huge effort to get by Central. Wyomissing and Neumann Goretti were ranked 2 & 3 to start the year. This week they’re swapped. What a monunmental game they had this past weekend! Central was right there at the 5 slot to begin the year. They’re one up.

In 2A, yep, Southern Columbia is right back near the spot they started, but they’re in the two spot. Westinghouse takes the 1 spot. Preseason SCA was the 1 and we’re pretty sure our staff was they only ones that had the House ranked preseason. They started at 6.

And finally, the BIG SURPRISE team of the year. The Union Scotties. They come in at #2 after shocking the world the past couple of weeks. The Rollers remained at #2 all year long. They took the 1 spot after Caneving got bounced. Canton and Port were both in our rankings early on.

Well, we only have one more set of ranking to go. Who will finish on top?  We’ll find out this week!
