PFN State Rankings – Week 1 Class 6A & 5A

The Pennsylvania Football News releases it’s state rankings every Sunday night.  Here are the new Class 6A & 5A rankings after Week 1:

Class 6A

It was a bad weekend for the WPIAL 6A teams and especially bad for Pittsburgh Central Catholic. Although, the Vikings were thoroughly dominated by St. John’s (DC). Yes, that knocked them out of the No. 1 spot, but don’t think for a minute that PCC is still not one of the favorites in the classification.  Pine-Richland and North Allegheny also lost to out-of-state teams, but both were one-point heart breakers.  The big winner last weekend was North Penn who jumped all the way to No. 2 with an impressive win over ranked LaSalle College. Saint Joseph’s Prep takes a road trip to California to begin their 2016 season and they will also play a team that gets national recognition.

Class 5A

The original eight ranked teams stayed the same with only three teams actually playing games this past weekend. Archbishop Wood was not a winner, but they were not a loser either as their game against Wayne (OH) was suspended tied 21-21 because of weather. Woodland Hills and Wyoming Valley West were the other two teams in action and were victorious.
