Hawk Life is what they call the life of being a member of the St. Joseph’s Prep football family. Matt McGeary just added “Raider Life” to his bag of monikers. The 6-2, 295 pound lineman announced via twitter that he will continue “football & academic life” at Colgate University:
We caught up with Matt and asked him about his choice:
PFN: How long have you played football?
– I’ve been playing football since kindergarten.
PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Raiders?
– The education I can get at Colgate is one of the best in the country, the football program is super competitive, and when I visited campus I fell in love with the school.
PFN: Why commit early?
– It was the right time for me. I just felt like the time was right. It’s a place that I know I can succeed on and off the field. After my visit, I knew Colgate was the place for me.
PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Colgate, who recruited you?
– Coach Dakosty and Coach Dunlay from the recruiting side, and one of my other influences was the receivers coach for my team, Ryne Morrison. He graduated from Colgate and played there. He speaks very highly of the school and football program.
PFN: What are they getting in player like you?
– Someone who plays with a chip on his shoulder, and aggressive player who likes contact. But above all, they are getting someone who loves being apart of a team.
PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?
– The recruiting process was difficult for me. I had to make some hard choices along the way, but I believe I made the best choice for me to succeed.
PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?
– To be honest, I’m not quite sure what I want to study right now, but if I had to guess what direction I were to go in it would probably be somewhere in the Political Science or Phycology realm.
PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Colgate program?
– The drive to win. They don’t back down from anyone, and I love that. I can’t wait to be apart of it.
PFN: Tell everyone out there in Raider land something they’d never know about you until you told them:
– I’m a huge fisherman. Freshwater or saltwater, it doesn’t matter. In my free time, you will usually find me with a fishing rod in my hand.
PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?
– My offensive line coach, Tom Sugden. He is a great coach and has turned me into the player I am today. He is more than a coach to me. He is a friend, and someone who I look up to.
PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?
– This decision I made was the best for me, and I’m excited for my senior season with my teammates and supporters.
