Last Night I headed to Brockway, Pa to catch the Frank Varischetti All-Star game my 42 game of 2021. Like most All-Star games the defense started off fast for both teams. There were a lot of playoff-like hits coupled with enough chippiness to keep the large loud crowd into the game right up till the scoreboard clock read 0:00. Being on the field, a place I seldom go I was able to hear several players on both sides of the ball express how badly they wanted to win this one, and both coaching staffs each seemed to share those thoughts.
Mitchell Reiter (St.Mary’s) and Dominic Cherry (Ridgeway) each scored a touchdown to put the North up 12-0. I was told that the North did not have a kicker available, so they were forced to go two after each score, with both attempts being stopped by the South team. The South who’s offense was able to solve the North’s defense with Dale Kit (DuBois) making a Drew Pearson like 41 yd TD catch then Nathan Waltman (Karns City) converted the two-point conversion catch to make this a 12-8 game late in the third quarter. Waltman, who goes 6-5, 250 pounds would score the last points of the game using his big frame to make the touchdown catch easy giving us our 14-12 game.
