Ricky Ortega has thrown for over 7,700 yard, 102 tds and has a QB rating of 132. Add in 2,200 yards rushing for 35 tds.  He still has one more year to play. Any wonder why nearly 20 schools have offered him should be put to rest in those first two sentences.

Villanova is getting one heck of a quarterback! The 6-2, 220 pound incoming senior made his decision today and announced it via twitter:

We caught up with Ricky and asked him about his decision:

PFN: How long have you played football?

Ricky: I’ve been playing football since I was 5 years old

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Wildcats?

Ricky: I chose to commit to Villanova because I had a great relationship with the coaches and I like what they’re doing with their program right now and it feels like home!

PFN: Why commit early?

Ricky: I committed early because I have a great feel about Villanova and I know it’s a place where I can see myself play early and have great success and the academics plays a big piece in the decision also

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Villanova, who recruited you?

Ricky: My biggest influence at Villanova was coach Ferrante the head football coach he’s a great guy and Since day 1 he believed in me as a player and we have built a great relationship. Dave Riede is the area recruiter

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

Ricky: Villanova is getting a competitor, with a hard work ethic, and a player who plays with a chip on his shoulde

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?r

Ricky: The recruiting process was very fun and challenging because I grew such great relationships with great coaches at each and every school that offered me

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Ricky: I want to study in communications with a minor in coaching

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the GS program?

Ricky: The most exciting thing about Villanova is the culture they have and the winning mentality with hard work ethics with great tradition

PFN: Tell everyone out there in Wildcat land something they’d never know about you until you told them:

Ricky: I had to be carried onto the field my first year playing football because I was scared to play lol

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

Ricky: The person who most influenced me in my football career was my dad ( head coach ) and my grandfather Rick Ortega because I saw how much they loved the game and always wanted to make them proud because I’ve seen how football blessed our family

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Ricky: How thankful I am to have their respect, loyalty, and dedication towards our Coatesville community

PFN: What kind of influence did your family have on your process and your decision?

Ricky: My family had a huge impact on my decision because they want what’s best for me. They sat and talked with me many times about what they thought but at the same time let me have the freedom to make my own decision. I always had the confidence that they would support whatever I chose.
