JMU is landing PA talent. In the past 10 days they’ve landed Bishop McDevitt DB Chase Regan, Central Dauphin lineman Evan Bushong and now Emmaus lineman Mario Landino has pulled the trigger for the Dukes. Yesterday on twitter he made his announcement:

We caught up with Mario to ask him about his decision:

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to JMU before your senior season?

Committing there before my season gives me the chance to fully focus on my season and team. Our goal has always been a district chip which has never been done before for our football team. And I wanted to put the recruitment behind and begin that journey!

PFN: Who was your biggest influence there, who recruited you?

My biggest influence was Coach Pat Kuntz who also recruited me. I related to him a lot and knew right away the way that I am gonna be coached. I knew that we would be able to make eachother a better player/coach and person.

PFN: What are the Dukes getting in player like you?

There getting what I like to say as a family. But aswell as that I still have that aggression on the football field. I am a guy who will lead and bring a team together whether I’m the youngest or oldest player. But am very committed to the Benefit of the team.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

Recruitment was very long and kinda sucks the life out of you. Lots of stress and pressure but could be very fun and enjoyable. At the end of the day I can’t complain because I’m lucky enough to be apart of the process.

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

I was recruited for DL and OL, but I preferred defense much more!

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

I would like to go into finance.

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

My parents played a huge role in my decision. I would not do anything or go anywhere without them or their opinions because I’m a very family driven person. They are very excited and it’s only about 4 hours away so they aren’t complaining.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?

The most exciting thing is to see where this program can go. They are constantly on the rise and not looking back. They came from fcs and dominated the sunbelt which was super impressive but that isn’t their end goal.

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for JMU?

I’m most looking forward to building a chemistry with the guys and seeing how well we can play together. And just to be winners and push eachother each day.

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

One thing is that I am one of 5. I have 4 sisters two older two younger. I’m smack dab in the middle.

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

For me it would be my cousin George. George is the reason that I started to play football when him and his family kept bugging me to play. Finally thanks to him I started in 3rd grade and ever since then we have played together. He has been there my whole career so far.

Why do you play football?

I play football for a couple reasons. One being I love the sport and have a passion to play DL. On top of that I wanted to work for an education that would help my parents be able to retire and not worry about college payments. And always for that future end goal which is the NFL.

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

As a High school player I would say the portal. It has changed many things for high school players and I have witnessed it happen to me.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

One thing is that my first decision wasn’t JMU. But after all things and a lot of changes JMU became the best place and fit for me. And a place I can thrive and enjoy!
