Schuylkill-Colonial League Week-1 Review:

Last weekend we saw some great football action, some close tough games, some not so close, streaks ended, and more. To start it off, I traveled to Ashland to watched the game between Mt. Carmel and North Schuylkill. Mt. Carmel ended a 7 game losing streak to the Spartans winning 25 to 17. On Saturday, I traveled further north to watch Shenandoah Valley take on Columbia Montour Vo-Tech at Wen Cerra Memorial Field at CMVT High School. The Rams would end a 19 game losing streak by wearing down the Blue Devils in the second to victory 40 to 14. In other games around the league, the Green Knights of Pen Argyl ended their 11 game losing streak in what I would call an upset, taking down a good Wilson Area Warriors team 33 to 26 at Wilson. Pottsville got throttled by Jersey Shore 55 to 12. Looking into next weekend’s games, there are three games of interest.

  AT

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

Northwestern Lehigh Tigers(1-0) vs Northern Lehigh Bulldogs(1-0)
Last Meeting: Tigers won 34 to 33
Streak: Northwestern has won 4 straight dating back to 2017

Key Player(s) to Watch:
Northwestern Lehigh – Cade Christopher(sr)-WR/CB
Northern Lehigh – Izaiah Ramos(sr)-RB/CB

Outlook and Prediction:
This is a tough one, both teams can explode offensively. Looking back to last years matchup, ending in a 34 to 33 decision, I’m feeling this game can resemble much of last years. Cade Christopher, taking over for Justin Holmes at QB, didn’t waste any time showing he has the skills to lead his team at the position racking up over 200 yards on the ground, with 4 total touchdowns. My colleague and friend, Brian “HOLLYWOOD” Ptashinski will be attending this game with LIVE updates on Twitter at @Bptashinski. I’m not sure the Bulldogs defense can stop the Tigers offense, therefore….
My Prediction: Tigers by 3

   AT

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS:

North Schuylkill Spartans(0-1) vs Blue Mountain Eagles(1-0)
Last Meeting: Spartans won 21 to 14(2021)
Streak: North Schuylkill has won 5 straight

Key Players to Watch:
North Schuylkill – Trevor Minalda(QB/DB)
Blue Mountain – Tyler Miller(WR/RB/DB)

Outlook and Prediction:
While the Eagles come into this game, defeated in a 5 straight games, this year could be the year the Eagles can pull out the win with second year head coach Tom Gallagher in charge. Last year, the Spartans won a close battle 21 to 14, the Eagles return a slew of players from last years squad, while the Spartans lost a major part of their offense in QB Jake Hall, they still have a BIG offensive and defensive line that is very fast and agile. This game should come down to wire once again. I will be at the Eagles Nest for this game. For LIVE updates from the game, follow along on Twitter at @PFNDan570FB.
Prediction: Eagles by 6

SATURDAY FOOTBALL:

Northwest Rangers(1-0) vs Columbia Montour Vo-Tech(1-0)
Last Meeting: Rangers won 61 to 6(2021)
Streak: Northwest has won 4 straight since 2010

Key Players to Watch:
Northwest – Andrew Bonczewski(jr – WR/CB)
Columbia Montour Vo-Tech – Chase Koncsler(sr – WR/CB)

Outlook and Prediction:
Rams last victory over the Rangers came back in 2009 when they won 14 to 12. I had the pleasure of watching the Rams last week against Shenandoah Valley where they won 40 to 14. The Rams racked up about 350 yards in offense. Northwest took down Cowanesque Valley 51 to 19 last week. The Rangers also racked up around 350 yards in offense with RB-Jacob Bobersky rushing for 3 touchdowns, and Andrew Bonczewski caught five passes for 75 yards and 2 touchdowns. Like my other two games of interest, this one could come down whoever has possession last, and or, whoever doesn’t turn the ball over. For the second week in a row, I will be heading north to CMVT for a game after never being there before. For LIVE updates from the game, follow along on Twitter at @PFNDan570FB.
Prediction: Northwest by 4
