Wyomissing came into the game winners of 3 of the last 5 games against Pottsville, including 2019 when the Spartans won 21 to 20 in overtime. These two teams did not get to play last season due to COVID restrictions at the time. In a battle of two state ranked teams, the Spartans would control the line of scrimmage throughout the night with their always powerful Wing-T offense that would take time off the clock quickly and eventually tire out the Tide defense. In the first quarter, the Tide and Spartans would feel each other out during the opening few minutes of the game as both teams would punt on their first series of play. Later in the first quarter, Wyomissing would begin to move the ball, setting the tone for the rest of the evening as to what they were going to do on offense, run, run, run, and run some more. It wasn’t until the second quarter that we seen the games first score. After a 38 yard punt by Carrabello-Snowell, the Wyomissing offense would start to go to work, moving the ball down field 81 yards on 13 plays, eventually scoring when senior RB Tommy Grabowski would rumble in from a yard out for the score, and the Spartans would take the early lead 7 to 0 mid-way through the second quarter, Grabowski would rush for 37 yards on the drive. On the Tide next possession, Drew Eisenhower would make a play on the pass and intercept Jazce Carrabello-Snowell at the Tide 28 yard line, setting up another score for the Spartans. It took Wyomissing just 5 plays to score when Charlie Mcintyre would take the handoff for 2 yards, and the score, the point after was good once again and the Spartans would increase their lead to 14 to 0. Time wound down in the half, and the score would end 14 to 0 at halftime. Coach McGeoy would later say, ” When you give them a short field, it is tough on the defense, especially when they’re in a groove. ”

Wyomissing would receive the second half kickoff and run 8 plays for 59 yards, setting up yet another 1 yard score by senior running-back Tommy Grabowski who finished the night with 108 yards on 16 carries and 2 touchdowns. On the next play, Pottsville QB would bobble the snap, and the Spartans Justin DiMaio would recover the ball the the Tide 19. One play later, 240 pound FB Ja-mhi Jackson would take the ball 19 yards to the endzone for the score, and extend the Wyomissing lead to 28 to 0. On Pottsville’s next possession, Carrabello-Snowell would fumble again, and this time it was Ja-mhi Jackson who recovered the ball for the Spartans at the Tide 29 yard line. Like much of the game, the Spartans would capitalize again as Amory Thompson would run the ball 4 yards to the endzone to make the score 35 to 0 Spartans to start the mercy rule running clock. Pottsville would eventually get a few things rolling late in the third quarter when Tide RB Travontai Davis would turn left, and rumble down the sideline for 50 yards and the score to cut into the Spartan lead 35 to 7. In the fourth quarter, Pottsville would once again, put points on the board when backup QB Tejay Allen would connect with Zach Ott for a 6 yard touchdown making the score 35 to 14 Spartans in the final quarter of play. On the ensuing kickoff, Charlie Mcintyre would receive the ball at the 19 and race down field, and down the sideline for 81 yards and the score, after the extra point attempt was good, the Spartans lead 42 to 14, which would be the score as time expired. Though the Spartans powerful running game was lead by Grabowski, there was a slew of others that contributed such as, Drew Eisenhower with 74 yards on 11 carries, Amory Thompson with 44 yards on 9 carries, and Ja-mhi Jackson with 38 yards on 4 carries. Wyomissing ran the ball 51 times for a total of 274 yards, while the Tide mustered up 93 yards on 22 carries. Pottsville’s QB Snowell finished with 78 yards on 6 of 12 passing with 2 interceptions, and 12 yards rushing on 8 carries. Leading the rushing attack for the Tide was senior RB Travontai Davis who finished the night with 64 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown. The Spartans out gained the Tide in total yards with 303 yards to Pottsville’s 176. Interceptions from the Spartans were by Charlie Mcintyre, and Drew Eisenhower.

After the game, Wyomissing head coach had this to say… ” We ran as good of an offense we have in awhile, but we still tend to go in spurts “, ” we have a chance to be a very good team, but we have to be able to throw the ball, which we haven’t been able to do yet, and have to be more consistent with our running offense. ”

Up next for the Tide(1-1) next Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium against Saucon Valley who is also 1-1 following a victory last night over Salisbury Twp. 31 to 14.
