(SCR) – denotes scrimmage
What are your expectations for your team this year?
We have a lot of returning players, many of whom have started for the past two years. Offensively, our strength should be on our offensive line and in our backfield where we return 4 starting offensive linemen and all 3 of our starting running backs. On defense, our linebacking corps should be our strength as all 3 starting linebackers in our 4-3 scheme return along with 3 of our 4 starting defensive linemen, two of which were all-section 1st or 2nd team last season. We have a very challenging schedule, and we will definitely be challenged, but we expect to compete for a section championship and a playoff spot.
When your team is on offense, what are the keys to success?
In our triple option scheme, the success of our offense always starts with winning the line of scrimmage. We need to take care of the football and make good decisions to get the ball into the hands of our playmakers. Creating big plays through our passing game is always a key as well.
When your team is on defense, what are the keys to success?
We have a veteran linebacking corps that we expect to be the leaders on our defense. We also have several key returners on our defensive line where we need to fill gaps and put pressure on the QB to take pressure off of our secondary. In the secondary, we need to limit big plays. Last year we gave up too many quick scores, and making teams earn their points with long drives will be one key to our success.
