MECHANICSBURG – Ronald Burnette carried Steelton-Highspire to their 4th PIAA Class 1A championship after defeating Union Area 22-8, kicking off Championship Weekend at Cumberland Valley’s Chapman Field.
Burnette rushed for 122 yards on 28 attempts (4.4 AVG) and scored 3 TDs for the Rollers.
After a scoreless opening quarter Burnette struck for the first time with 7:53 remaining before halftime on a 3-yard run. Judah Hernandez’s PAT gave Steel-High a 7-0 lead, which they would take into the locker room.
Like the 1st quarter, the opening of the second half was a stalemate between both teams, but eventually Union put together a 14-play drive that culminated in a one-yard from Braylon Thomas. The Scotties gambled and went for two, and were denied, and trailed 7-6 with 2:21 remaining.

Union cut the lead to five points to start the 4th quarter as they dropped Alex Erby for a 9-yard loss in the end zone, combined with an intentional grounding penalty for a safety. However, the Rollers dropped Thomas for a 13-yard loss on 4th & 5 to stop another scoring threat by the Scotties. As the Rollers took back over, they put together a 7-play drive that chewed up 3:04 on the clock, as Burnette found the end zone for the third and final time on the afternoon on a 19-yard run. Hernandez hit this PAT, giving Steel-High a 20-8 lead with 5:33 remaining.
