On a special edition of PFN Friday Night Live, Thursday style, we saw the strength of the Blue Raiders take control of the game. The Middletown defensive front and offensive line took control on the last 2 series of the first have and only had one setback the rest of the game when Chiago Anyanwu busted loose for a 43 yard score to give the Spartans a 21-20 lead in the early stages of the fourth quarter. But it was all Raiders from there, paving the way for the games last two scores, a Richie Sykes 10 yard run and Jose Lopez with the capper from one yard out.

The game started with a flurry as Middletown used just three plays to start the scoring after the Spartans fumbled on the first play of the game.  Lopez carried the ball all three plays, finishing the 35 yard drive with a 25 yard dash to the end zone.

On their next possession, Sykes blasted down the sidelines for a 65 yard score to put the Raiders up 13-0, the kick failed and with 6:47 left in the first it looked like we were in for a rout.

Milton-Hershey battled back. Three plays later Dion Bryant busted loose for a 45 yard scoring run cutting the lead to 6 points, then it was a pas from Avohn Cross to Josh Parra from 14 yards out making it 14-13 Spartans late in the first quarter.

Trailing 14-13 late in the first half, Middletown twice sacked Milton-Hershey quarterback Tigere Mavesere forcing the Spartans to punt from their own 37. The snap sailed and was recovered at the 20. From there, the Blue Raiders punched it in with a one yard plunge by Scott Ash to make it 20-14 at the half.

The second half started with a scare for the Raiders as the kick bounced off one of their players and Milton-Hershey recovered, but on the next play they gave the ball back. Neither team could capitalize until the fourth quarter when Anyanwu busted loose.

“We’ve got some big bodies, a very experienced line and they did what we expected them to do” said Middletown Head Coach Brett Myers. “I’m proud of them and can’t wait to watch it on film and see how hard they played.”

For Lopez, he was named the CircleWSports.com player of the game, earning the title with 157+ yards and 2 tds.

Sykes had 102 yards and Ash tallied 71

For the Spartans, Anyanwu ran for 84 yards and Naeem Cross, who returned from injury in a big way, carried the ball had 12 carries for 76 yards.
