Last Meeting-11/13/20 Wildcats 13 vs Marauders 48

In a battle of old foes, Bishop Guilfoyle played Homer-Center in the District VI playoffs for the sixth time in nine years. The Marauders won for the fourth time and will play for the D6 title for the eighth time in nine years. The Wildcats came into the game knowing they would have to play a near perfect game. The Marauders were able to win the quarterback play, special teams and turnover battle in route to a 28-0 victory.

The Wildcats got the ball first starting from their own 21. Homer-Center would have ten possessions on the night, eight started inside their own 30. The only two times they didn’t have to drive the entire field were after a squib kick kick and a long punt return. Devin Wyandt one of the top punter/kickers in the state kept them bottled up all night.

The Wildcats would pick up two first downs and get near midfield before punting. But a 13 yard punt allowed the Marauders to maintain the field position advantage. BG would go three and out and punt. Homer’s second drive started at their own eleven. Two plays later the Wildcats committed their first turnover which Karson Kiesewetter return for a touchdown, but a blindside block denied the score. The Marauders would not be deterred, scoring two plays later. The 21 yard drive featured two Karson Kiesewetter runs, the second from nine yards out. Wyandt added the point after and it was 7-0 BG.

The Wildcats third possession started from their own 20 after a touchback on the kickoff by Wyandt. The Wildcats had a fourth and one from their own 41 and decided to go for it. But a false start penalty pushed them back and forced another punt. Another short punt gave the Marauders the ball at their own 40. BG would drive 60 yards in just over two minutes. Karson Kiesewetter would score from 44 yards out after getting around the Wildcats right end. Wyandt made it 14-0. Homer-Center starting at its own 26 would drive 65 yards in six and a half minutes as the game entered the second quarter. On fourth and seven from the BG nine Wildcat quarterback Cole Mcanulty threw incomplete.

The Marauders would now march 91 yards in six minutes and 16 seconds. Karson Kiesewetter was able to make plays all night. Footing was a little slick all night at Homer-Center’s Memorial Field. It is a grass field in Homer City, Pennsylvania. The Marauders who play their home games on turf at Mansion Park should have been at a disadvantage. They were not. Karson Kiesewetter however was able to avoid Wildcats the whole night. BG head coach Justin Wheeler had a great offensive game plan that allow Kiesewetter to succeed in the passing game too. Almost every pass was a five or six yard curl or slant that the Wildcats were unable to defend. Kiesewetter capped the drive with a seven yard slant pass to Cooper Roth with 18 seconds to go in the half. Wyandt made it 21-0.

The following kickoff hit a Wildcat front rower and gave HC it’s best field position of the half from their own 44. They were able to get in position to throw a Hail Mary as the half ended. The pass fell incomplete in the end zone.

The first three possessions of the second half saw little offense and three punts. BG punted twice and HC once. The Wildcats started their second drive of the half from their own 16. They would drive to the BG 31 when Mcanulty hit Michael Krejocic near the BG sideline, Cooper Roth who was in coverage was able to strip the ball and run 75 yards untouched for a touchdown. Wyandt made it 28-0.

The Wildcats would go three and out and punt on their next possession as the fourth quarter started. BG would put the game away with a six minute and 47 second drive which ended with a missed field goal. The Wildcats would go backwards on their next possession and punt again. Both teams would end the game getting some playing time for the underclassmen. The Marauders who may not be as good as in the past are still going to be a force to be reckoned with as they punched their ticket to the round of eight.
