Mars finished 1-9 last season, snapping a 16-year winning streak. What must you guys do as a team to get back to your winning ways?

As a team, we have to get stronger, as every team should, but one thing that held us down was our lack of experience in running the new offense, which we will dive straight into this off-season.

What have you been able to do this off-season to improve your game?

This offseason, I was able to improve my leg strength the most compared to previous years, and speed was a major focus.

After watching your Hudl highlights, I can see you get off the blocks very well and have a strong nose for football. I also noticed that you are a sure tackler. How much of this comes from film studies and weightroom work?

One big part of my play comes from just feeling it. I do watch film to understand who I’m going up against and who blocks me, and I try to see what they’re not great at. The weight room is a big part. Even though I’m not the strongest, I put on 40 pounds going from sophomore to junior year, and I definitely wouldn’t have started if I hadn’t.

How important will it be for you to make one or two of the all-star games after the season is over?

I do not think all-star games are too important to me, especially since I wrestle. If my coach recommends that I attend, I will probably go to one.

Have you heard from any colleges about playing football? If so, can you tell us some of them, and if you have a front runner, would you give us the scoop?

I’ve talked to a few colleges, most recently W & J, Dayton, and Slippery Rock, but none have offered, so Slippery Rock is the front runner.

You have a first-year starting teammate making his first start of the season. What advice would you give him before coming out of the locker room on opening night?

I would tell my teammate to let everything come in slowly and react to what they see as fast as you can, but not to get hung up on your assignment because if you can make the play, then make it.

What is your game day routine?

My game day routine usually starts after school. My mom will get me some type of meal. I like to get to the field early, get taped up, and before the game I always eat a rice krispy treat. I also find my little brothers before I run out and say hi.

What has been your fondest memory as far as playing football goes?

Back in 6th maybe 7th grade when we had an undefeated season and my dad was coaching me.

Have you been able to watch any of the USFL games? If you have, what are your thoughts on them?

I haven’t really watched the USFL, but I think that it’s good for them to be a possible rival to the NFL.

What is your favorite restaurant in town?

Favorite restaurant in town has to be Big Shot Bobs.
