Defense wins football games.  There hasn’t likely been a term about the sport used more than that one. And last night the Viking of Sto-Rox lived up to that moniker. Trailing by 7 late in the second, the Viking defense forced a fumble and drove to the Centaurian goal line, but a fumble as the running back tried to score several plays later gave Bishop Sycamore the ball back.

One play later Tre’shaun Barron picked off a Trillian Harris pass and the Vikings scored on a 20 yard pass from Austin Jones to Josh Jenkins, tying the score at 7 just before the half.  “Our defense really played great tonight” said Viking head coach LaRoi Johnson. “The defense is ahead of the offense right now but we’ll take it. I felt like the offense make good plays in small increments but the defense is ahead right now.”

The Viking defense really clamped down in the second half with 2 more interceptions. Diego Ellis gave the Vikings another defensive play, high pointing a pass to beat out a receiver for an interception. That pick led to a punt, but Rox got the ball back quickly on the 9 giving Jones and Jenkins another chance to hook up making it 13-7 with 2:12 left in the third.

Barron then did his thing again to slam the door shut on Sycamore, picking off another pass and this one was returned for the score.
