Incoming junior Johnny Varischetti had an exciting 2022 season. It was his first time as a starter and he didn’t disappoint. As center he didn’t allow a sack or pressure on his quarterback. Head coach Jake Heigel says “Johnny started at center as a sophomore and immediately it felt like a veteran was at the position. He is an extremely smart and crafty player. Will be a two way starter at linebacker as well”.

LET’S GET TO KNOW JOHNNY VARISCHETTI

Why do you play football?

I have always dreamed of playing football since a very young age. I have grown up around it and it has been a huge part of my life since day 1. I hope to someday follow in my dad and brother’s footsteps and play at the collegiate level.

Who is your favorite sports star and WHY?

Haba Baldonado because I had an opportunity to meet and work with him and several of his teammates when they came to Brockway to conduct a football camp for our team. I admire his leadership, his wonderful teaching ability, and his all-around personality. He also has a fascinating story; coming from Italy to the U.S. to play football.

Do you have a favorite play you remember the most? Explain:

My favorite play would be in the D9 semifinal game when we needed one first down to seal the game, we ran the ball right behind our offensive line and Jendy Quello was able to get the first down to win the game.

What was last years season like for you?

It was very exciting for me as it was my first opportunity to start and I went up against a lot of very good players from around the district. I was nervous at the beginning of the season, but as the season progressed I continued to gain more confidence. I consider last season to be successful ,however, there are opportunities for improvement.

What are your goals for this coming season?

Win District 9 Championship

Who is the best player you ever lined up against?

There are a lot of very good defensive linemen in our district and every week is a challenge.

What stadium, HS/college/pro would you love to visit for a game?

Rose Bowl Stadium

What is your favorite Pro team, any sport?

Steelers

What game, yours, college or pro, was your favorite game you watched and why?

When Pitt beat Wake Forest in the 2021 ACC Championship. I am a huge Pitt fan and watching them win their first ACC title was awesome!

What sports movie would you watch every day if you had to pick one and why?

I would say Rocky because I love a good underdog story and Rocky is the ultimate underdog.

If your mom and dad are screaming at you from the stands, what is it they usually yell?

It would likely be something encouraging

Name one thing that you’d love to do in football that may never happen?

Score a touchdown

Who is your mentor, the person you want to be like? WHY?

I want to be like my dad. He is a great person in every way, as a dad, as a coach, as a businessman, and as a mentor in general. He is always available to help me, talk to me, give me guidance, or anything else I may need. I hope to be just like him when I am older.

Name a sport you’d love to play but can’t:

Honestly, there are not sports that I’d like to play that I don’t have acsess to.

Is there anyone in your family, besides your parents, you could consider your biggest fan? Who, Why?

My brother, sister, and brother-in-law. They are almost always at my games and if they aren’t they always go out of their way to talk after and recap how it went.

When you aren’t playing, practicing or training for sports, what is your go to activity and why?

Either playing Video games or building Legos. I enjoy playing video games because it’s very fun expecially when you play with other people. Legos have always been something I enjoy because they take time and focus and look really cool when they are finished.

What is your favorite football memory to date?

Winning in the District Semifinals to go to the Championship Game

What is your favorite play to run?

Probably our solid screen where I get to block on the perimeter

Music of choice:

Hip Hop

What restaurant is your go to when you need a big meal?

Either the Rocky Grill in Brockway or Luigi’s in DuBois

Which one? Sheetz or Wawa

A Brockway Rover game when my brother was playing
