Some Friday early evening football in Tiffin, Ohio brought the Polar Bears (3-3) to town to battle Calvert (5-0) in a game that would not be decided until late in the third quarter kept the good size crowd very much into the game. Calvert was off last week thanks to some illness and super low numbers to their opponent Freemont St. Joe. While the Polar Bears lost to an undefeated Hopewell-Loudon squad.

Thanks started out well for the Polar Bears with Jake Bouy sprinting for 11 yards, then Bouy found Gage Bodey for 14 yards. On fourth and short Bouy was stuffed for a short loss by the defensive line. After an 18-yard completion from Harry Schultz to Cal Warnement, Jacob Rombach broke a tackle and turned on the jets going 48 yards for the touchdown. After Billy Clouse nailed the point after kick we had a 7-0 game with 7:02 left in the opening stanza.

On the ensuing Polar Bears drive any hopes of locking things up ended when Xavier Kimmet threw Bodey down twice after catches for losses totaling 6 yards those plays were followed by a sack on Bouy by Wyatt Weiker on fourth down turned the ball back over to Calvert with 1:51 left on the clock.

A catch and a run by Warnement would total 79 yards including a 35-yard run for a touchdown making this a 14-0 game with 5:40 remaining in the half. The last big play of the half came with a little over 2:00 showing on the clock with Billy Clouse stopping Jordan Luzader for a short loss on fourth down to put the Calvert offense back on the field.

The Polar Bears kickoff to begin the second quarter and the line drive type kick bounced off of a Calvert up man where Kane Smetzer dove on it to give the Polar Bears the ball. Bouy found Julian Washington for 29 yards to aid in setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by Smetzer to make this a 14-7 game with Luzader hitting the point after kick. Less than a minute later Judah Keller tied things up with a pick-six.

The Senecas seemed to wake up after the pick-six because they responded with a 66-yard touchdown throw by Schultz, who connected with a wide-open John Schumacher making this a 21-14 game. After shutting down the Polar Bears offense Calvert would get the ensuing drive going with a 15-yard run from Rombach. A short time later we had a 27-14 game when Warnement pounded in from 2 yards out with a little under a minute left in the quarter.

The fourth quarter would see each team getting interceptions, for Calvert Billy Clouse did the deed, and for the Polar Bears it was Washington stepping up big.  With 5:15 left Bouy found Washington for 42- yards. Then Bouy connected with Keller to set up a fourth and one from the one at the 4:29 mark. Bouy would fumble the snap and be tackled for a 5-yard loss by Schumacher and Cameron Bagent ending any hopes of a comeback as there would be no more scoring in the game.
