WESTINGHOUSE BULLDOGS
CLASS AA DISTRICT 8 PITTSBURGH CITY
HEAD COACH DONTA GREEN
OVERVIEW: After a 25-year absence of Pittsburgh City schools from the State Championship, Westinghouse Academy returns for a second straight year to take on Southern Columbia. The Bulldogs will attempt to halt SoCo’s record breaking streak of 6 straight state titles. Last year’s tilt was a battle from start to finish with Westinghouse Academy falling 37-22. Westinghouse enters the championship game undefeated 13-0.
HOW THEY GOT TO THE TITLE GAME: Following a comeback win against Farrell H.S., scoring 24 forth quarter points, in the state quarterfinals game. The Bulldogs upended Beaver Falls 28-8 in the Class AA state semifinal game to get back to the Chap, for a rematch with Southern Columbia.
KEYPLAYERS/STATS:
QB Khalil Green The Bulldog offense starts and revolves around Green. He is a duel threat QB running and passing for over 1,300 yards. In the first three playoff games he rushed for 280 yards, while throwing for 470 yards while accounting for 10 TDs.
RB Ty Abrams A silky smooth down hill runner, Abrams is an excellent weapon if defenses over play QB Green. He has averaged over a 100 yards per game in the playoffs.
WRs Robinson\Hawkins Westinghouse Academy has two dangerous wide receivers who can breakoff a long pass or take a bubble screen to the endzone from anywhere on the field.
OL\DL Harvey\Poindexter These two road graders have been starters for 4 years; their experience and technical ability will prove pivotal if the Bulldogs are to stop SoCo’s reign as AA Kings.
Offensive keys to winning: Coach Green’s Bulldogs will have to control the ball using outstanding QB Khalil Green’s running and passing skills. While Westinghouse’s offense can score from anywhere on the field, they must anticipate 10-14 play drives that eat up the clock and keep Southern Columbia’s high-powered offense off the field.
Defensive Keys to winning: The Bulldog’s defense must avoid the big play by the Tiger’s offense. They must force them on long marches and get off the field on third down. The front seven must contain the Tiger’s vaunted running attack. The back end of the defense, must stop the long ball and force turnovers.
