Abington Heights scored early and often in the first half and invoked the mercy rule for the entire 2nd half as the Comets totally dominated the Scranton Knights 49-13 on a windy and cold evening up in Clarks Summit.  Abington Heights got a rushing TD and a passing TD from QB Noah Kayal and also got 3 rushing TD’s from RB Jayden Anglin.  The Comet defense kept the Knights starters off the board in the half.

Scranton’s first drive stalled and a wind-affected short punt gave Abington Heights good field position to start at the Scranton 32.  They cashed in 4 plays later when QB Noah Kayal hit WR Evan Keiper for a 17-yard score that made it 7-0 Comets with 8:27 left in the 1st quarter.

After a decent start to their second drive, the Knights stumbled backward when RB Israel Salazar changed directions on a run and was hit for a 9-yard loss.  Scranton punted it away again and the Comets took only 5 plays to cash in again when RB Jayden Anglin hit on a 6-yard scoring run to make it 14-0 Abington Heights with 2:19 left in the 1st quarter.

Scranton’s next drive was halted by an intercepted pass at the Knight 23, and the Comets hit paydirt again to start the 2nd quarter when Kayal called his own number and scored on a 1-yard keeper to make it 21-0 with 11:54 left in the 2nd quarter.  Disaster then struck the Knights as a fumble on the ensuing kickoff gave the Comets the ball back again, and 3 plays later Anglin scored on a 1-yard run to make it 28-0 with 10:30 to go in the half.  After Scranton had another 3-and-out, Abington Heights had a sustained 9-play drive that was capped by Anglin’s 3rd TD of the night, a 20-yard run that made it 35-0 with 4:50 to go in the 1st half and invoking the mercy rule for the 2nd half.  The Comets added one more score before halftime, a 1-yard run by RB Anthony Severs with 26 seconds left in the half.

In the second half, a substantial number of backups were in for both teams with the running clock in play for the entire half.  Scranton got on the board on an 8-yard run by WR Kimani Sterling to make it 42-7.  Abington Heights answered in the 4th quarter when QB Chris Bohn scored on a 6-yard TD run to make it 49-7 with 6:55 left in the game.  Scranton capped the scoring when WR Ian McAndrew broke free for a 61-yard TD run with 4:59 left in the game.

Abington Heights improved to 7-2 and will head on the road next Friday to face Hazleton.  Scranton fell to 2-7 and will head home next Friday to face Delaware Valley.
