District 2 Class 5A standout Wide Receivers Gavin Anders and Lucas LoPresto were named to the PA Writers’ Class 5A All-State Team.
Anders, a 6-1 185 lb senior, had 74 receptions for 1,158 yards and 9 TD’s as the Comets went 9-3 and again advanced to the District 2 title game. Gavin seemed to always be open even when double-covered, and what the stats don’t show is the large number of clutch catches he made this season. His great awareness and route-running were clutch contributions to the Comet offense, and his rapport with QB Nick Bradley was on display every game. He made a huge step forward in becoming the top receiving target this year for Abington Heights, and the result was a huge season. Gavin, congrats on a great year!
For Pittston Area, this season was a terrific story and a big reason for their success was the incredible athleticism of Lucas LoPresto. The stats may not show it, but context is key: 378 rushing yards and 9 rushing TD’s, 560 receiving yards and 5 receiving TD’s, a passing TD and 6 return TD’s. Against Dallas this season, his pick-6 may have been the key play of the game….or was is the halfback option TD pass he threw….or the wildcat rushing TD? I think you get the picture. LoPresto is probably the most dangerous kick/punt returner in District 2, and most teams kick the ball away from him. On defense, he is a shutdown player in coverage and a ball hawk, and on offense he lines up literally everywhere to keep teams guessing. Oh, and he’s only a junior. Lucas, congrats on a great season!!
