The Wyoming Area Warriors came in with a full head of steam but were handled by the defense of the Berwick Bulldogs as Berwick rolled to a big 35-13 win at a packed Crispin Field. The Bulldog defense was the real story as they continually stuffed the Wyoming Area running game. Berwick QB Brady Cleaver had 2 TD runs and RB Ty Wilkerson added 2 rushing TD’s as well. Wyoming Area QB Jack Gravine had 2 TD passes, one to WR Luke Kopetchny and the other to TE Josh Mruk.
Berwick got on the board first when QB Brady Cleaver broke free on a nice cutback run for a 51-yard scamper to paydirt that put Berwick up 7-0 with 9:24 left in the first quarter. He scored again on Berwick’s next drive with a 13-yard run that made it 14-0 with 3:56 left in the 1st quarter.
Wyoming Area had a nice drive going at the end of the 1st quarter but fell short on 4th down inside the Berwick 10 and turned the ball over on downs. Berwick then had a nice drive going but a fumble at the Wyoming Area 11-yard line was recovered by the Warriors. On the very next play, Wyoming Area QB Jack Gravine hit WR Luke Kopetchny down the left sideline for an 89-yard TD that made it 14-6 Berwick with 5:02 left in the 1st half.
In the 3rd quarter, Wyoming Area took the 2nd half kickoff but the Berwick defense rose up to the occasion once again and stopped the drive. Berwick took over and so did Bulldog RB TyMeere Wilkerson, who capped the first Berwick drive of the 2nd half with a 3-yard TD run to make it 21-6 Berwick with 7:31 left in the 3rd quarter. Before the Warriors could gain any momentum and mount a comeback, they fumbled in their own territory and when Berwick took the ball back it was RB Gavin Galutia who scored on a 43-yard run to make it 28-6 Berwick with 4:03 left in the 3rd quarter.
Wyoming Area worked hard to get back into the game and their next drive was successful as Gravine hit TE Josh Mruk for a 31-yard score, and it was 28-13 Berwick with 10:16 left in the game. The Warriors tried an onside kick but it failed and the Bulldogs made them pay when Wilkerson broke free on a 49-yard run to make it 35-13 Berwick, and that’s how it ended.
Berwick improved to 6-0 and will now head to Nanticoke to face the Trojans. Wyoming Area fell to 5-1 and will look to get back on track at home against the Hanover Hawkeyes.
