Bishop McCort-Carrol vs Bishop Guilfoyle Preview

| August 30, 2024

The second week of high school football is here and tonight the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders travel to Johnstown to take on the Bishop McCort-Carroll Crushers. Both teams are 1-0 and are looking to get a second win on the year. The original game time for this game was for 7 PM, but has been moved to 8 PM.

These teams met at the same time last year and the Marauders won very comfortably with a 51-7 victory. Both teams are very different, which should make this a more competitive game. McCort-Carrol is coming off a big comeback victory against Central Cambria and Bishop Guilfoyle beat Bald Eagle 21-0 a week ago. Let’s preview this matchup.

Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders

BG is annually a solid program that always goes to the playoffs. The PFN Rankings Team has them as the #1 team in Single-A. They proved that they are a good team with a shutout win against Bald Eagle, a team that opened the season up as a top Double-A team. Hamilton Gates finished with two touchdowns and Braden Reilly also had one. Their receivers are very good and they have a good quarterback in Chase Kissell getting the ball to them.

For the Marauders to beat the Crushers, they need to consistently move the ball down the field. McCort has a solid defense, so BG needs consistency with their offense. Their defense looks to be better, but if they do not move the ball well, then it will be tough for them.

Bishop McCort-Carrol Crushers

McCort is coming off a big time win against Central Cambria. It was a comeback win where they won by one point. They were very inexperienced in 2023 and also lost two players that went on to play college football, but now they are looking like a strong team together. Losing their main weapons on offense and defense is tough to come back from, but they found some pieces to do so. Eli Zasadni is a division one prospect at defensive end and offensive line. Jon Delia is the team’s top running back. Bentley Bainey is also a solid young quarterback and defensive back.

The Crushers have some good players, but putting them all together into a winning program has been difficult over the last few years. To get back to winning this evening, they will need their defensive backs to shut down BG’s strong pass game. BG also has a good line on both sides, but Zasadni will need to get pressure on the quarterback to help. If they can move the ball down the field and stop the Marauders strong offense, then they could sneak away with a victory.

This should be a solid game to watch, but Bishop Guilfoyle will be a tough team to beat. If Bishop McCort can play like they did a week ago, then this game could end closer than last year.
