Blue Mountain cruises past Lehighton in Class 4A Playoff matchup (VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS)

Blue Mountain played an efficient game, as they scored 2 touchdowns on defense and also got a kickoff return TD as they defeated Lehighton 42-7 in a District 11 Class 4A opening round matchup. The Eagle defense played great, getting run stops and sacks throughout the night and consistently gave their offense great field position to secure the victory.
Blue Mountain opened the scoring when QB Cohen Kirby hit WR Chase Guers on a 29-yard pass to make it 7-0 with 7:13 left in the 1st quarter. Lehighton would later get on the board next when QB Jayse Lawrence threw a 36-yard strike to WR Caden Meek, and we were tied at 7 with 1:13 left in the 1st quarter.
Unfortunately for Lehighton, on the ensuing kickoff the Eagles scored on a kickoff return touchdown to make it 14-7 at the end of the 1st quarter. Blue Mountain then scored their 3rd TD when RB Carter Smith hit on a weaving 44-yard run to make it 21-7 with 2:46 left in the half. The Blue Mountain defense then made their presence known as DL Vaughn Helverson got the pick-6 from inside the Indians 15-yard line to make it 28-7 Blue Mountain with 1:47 left in the half. On the ensuing drive, the Eagle defense quickly forced a fumble and ran that back for a score and at the half it was 35-7 Blue Mountain.
In the 3rd quarter, Blue Mountain struck paydirt again when RB Brody Foose scored on a 3-yard run which made it 42-7 and started the running clock with 7:00 to go in the 3rd quarter. The Eagle defense continued to make stops and force punts throughout the remainder of the game and it was a 42-7 final in favor of Blue Mountain.
Blue Mountain will now head on the road next week to face Southern Lehigh.
