Last year when these 2 teams met it was a very tough game coming down to the last minute of the game but Berwick came out on top with a score of 28-14. This year, however, was not near as close and as much of a battle for the Dawgs.

It all started  16 seconds into the game when, after Berwick got the ball to their 43 yard line then ran it 57 yards to get on the board. Upon kicking the ball back to Hazleton Johnson dropped the ball but was able to recover it on the 1 yard line. Then with a pass interference on Berwick giving the Cougars 15 yards. And then just over 2 minutes into the quarter the Dawgs score again, but with a fumbled snap the score is now 13-0, and a minute plus later Berwick puts another 7 on the board. At the half way point in the quarter Berwick intercepts it and brings it to the 31. However Hazleton intercepts it back on the 4 yard line and runs it to the 50. Neither team is able to get any more points on the board, making the score at the end of the 1st quarter 20-0.

The 2nd quarter started off with a lot of back and forth, Hazleton putting up a good fight and keeping Berwick at bay until a short kick to Berwick’s 48 and the immediately follow it up with 7 more points. With a minute left Laubach, not being able to find any receivers takes the ball in himself. And as they line up to go for an extra 2, to make it 35 ending the half. When they line up illegal procedure is called against the Dawgs pushing back 5. Then with a poor snap, Berwick was not able to get the 2 points, and so ends the half making it 33-0.

Only taking 2.5 minutes into the 3rd and the Dawgs puts the Mercy rule into play with the score now 40-0. Now Berwick puts in 2nd string, able to still keep the Cougars from scoring until there is 6:40 left in the game, when a Berwick fumbles on their 1 yard line and 2 plays later the Cougars are able to run it in and get on the board making the final score of the game 40-7.

Next week the Dawgs will be meeting Crestwood (5-2) at Crestwood.
