1. Central Bucks West- The Bucks remain our number 1 team after their conference win against Pennsbury 20-3 in week 4. The Bucks held the potent Falcons rushing attack to 128 yards on 30 attempts in the win. Senior quarterback Cooper Taylor had 2 rushing touchdowns in the effort. The Bucks continue to roll (4-0) as they head into their next conference matchup game against North Penn (2-2) at home averaging 28.5 points per game offensively, while the defense is yielding 10.8 points per contest.
2. Downingtown West- After a sluggish start, the Whippets offense turned it on in a convincing 44-6 victory in it’s ChesMont opener against Avon Grove (2-2) Thursday night. The Whippet defense was able to keep the Red Devils out of the end zone after a couple of early offensive misques, allowing only two field goals. Midway through the second quarter Coach Mike Milano’s offense kicked it in high gear, led by QB Quinn Henicle and WR Jake Kucera, ripped off 37 straight points to secure the win. This week West hosts W.C. Henderson.
3. Downingtown East- The Cougars raced to a 37-0 halftime advantage in their ChesMont opener against an overmatched Bishop Shanahan. For the second week in a row Coach Michael Matta’s offense used a mixture of their power run game and the precision passing of QB J.J. Helverson to seemingly score at will against the Eagles. Downingtown’s defense has not allowed a point in three of their first four games. Next up Kennett.
4. West Chester Rustin- The Knights got revenge for last year’s loss to the Kennett Blue Demons in a big way, defeating Kennett 38-0. Rustin’s offense rushed for 363 yards on 34 carries, the defense was even more impressive pitching a shutout. Rustin is sure to be one of the favorites to take the D1 5A title. This week is a crossover game with the DelVal league against visiting Chichester.
5.Garnet Valley- The Jaguars received a scare this week but survived to knock off Haverford High School 14-13 bringing their Central League winning streak up to 46 games. Lonnie Leraris leads the Jaguars offensive attack with 74 yards rushing per game. This week the Jaguars face a difficult task when the host Inter-Ac power Haverford School.
6.Coatesville- The Red Raiders got back on track with a with a 44-0 demolition of Penn Wood Friday night. After a shaky game against Central Dauphin, Red Raider QB Matt Ortega, Jr. used pinpoint accuracy going 11-12 for 172 yards and 4 TDs. Coatesville scored on every possession of the first half, their stellar defense shutdown the visitors from DELCO, then Coach Matt Ortega emptied the bench for the second half. Coatesville has a crossover ChesMont contest against Unionville Friday night.
7.Pope John Paul II: The Golden Panthers completed the non-league portion of their schedule with a perfect 4-0 record with a victory over Father Judge 49-20. Boyd Skarbek is rushing for an average of 164.8 yards per game and has 8 touchdowns while Luke Terlesky has thrown for 10 touchdowns this season. The Golden Panthers open the PAC Frontier portion of their schedule on the road at Upper Perkiomen.
8. Perkiomen Valley- The Vikings ended their non-league schedule with a 27-12 victory over Cheltenham. Sophomore running back Nathan Reedy carried the ball 22 times for 136 yards & 2 scores. The Vikings (3-1) will host Owen J. Roberts (4-0) in their League opener. A year ago the Vikings won 20-13.
9.Souderton- The Big Red remain undefeated (4-0) after their 42-0 walloping of Council Rock North (0-4) in their opening game in conference play. Senior running back Ryan Sadowski carried the ball 11 times for 106 yards & a score in the victory. Senior wide receiver Danny Dyches had 2 carries for 21 yards & 2 scores as well. Soudy now travels to Harry S. Truman (1-3) to take on the Tigers in a conference matchup.
10.Spring-Ford-Despite Matt Zollers throwing for 309 yards the Rams fell for the first time to District 3 power Manheim Township 63-28. The Rams will look to get back on the winning track when they open PAC Liberty play by going on the road, taking on Boyertown
