Conneaut Eagles
2023 Season – 2-7
Head Coach – Josh Blood
Key Players Lost – Max Getz, Logan Groover
Key Player Returning – Joey Furgiuele, Benjamin Easler, Drew Dygert, Johnny Sandau, Nathan Green
What to Expect—Entering the new Region 3, Conneaut brings back several starters and will look to improve from its 2-7 record from a season ago. Starting quarterback Benjamin Easler returns after throwing for 770 yards and eight touchdowns. Joey Furgiuele returns as the team’s leading rusher with 682 yards and five touchdowns, earning second-team all-region honors.
Eisenhower Knights
2023 Season – 8-4
Head Coach – Jim Penley
Key Players Lost – Kris Bunk, Tucker Lindell, J.J. Darr, Cameron Jakubczak, Derek Childs, Cole Kellogg, Shawn Pascuzzi
Key Players Returning – Aiden Huebach, Logan Penley, Ryan Chambers, Gavin Lindemuth
What to Expect – Coming off another successful 8-4 season, Eisenhower will need to place five first-team Region 2 players from last season. They include Tucker Lindell (RB) (LB), Kris Bunk (TE), Cameron Jakubczak (DL), Dere Childs (LB), and Cole Kellogg (DB). Aiden Huebach returns on the line for the Knights after being selected to first-team Region 2 defensive line and second-team offensive line. Logan Penley also returns after earning a spot as a second-team Region 2 running back, rushing for 867 yards and five touchdowns, only ten yards behind Lindell, who led the team with 877. Shawn Pascuzzi threw for nearly 900 yards and was Region 2 co-player of the year in 2023.
Iroquois Braves
2023 Season – 1-9
Head Coach – Manny Johnson
Key Players Lost – Christian Krysiak, Savion Peoples, Samuel Kightlinger, Micah Pisarski
Key Players Returning – Cole Bennett, Ethan Alderson, Carmelo Hunter, Maddox Brown, Nykeem Abu-Zebiba, Treyvon Scott
What to Expect – Iroquois will look to improve from a 1-9 season in 2023. In order to do so, the Braves will need to replace quarterback Christian Krysiak, who threw for 1673 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Braves only rushed for 242 yards as a team last season. Receivers Cole Bennett, Ethan Alderson, and Carmelo Hunter return. The trio combined for 1113 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2023. Bennett earned second-team Region 2 honors as a tight end last season.
Mercyhurst Prep Lakers
2023 Season – 10-1
Head Coach – Jeff Root
Key Players Lost – Ja’son Ellman, Jeremy Ganska, Sean Sokolowski, Steve Grayson, Brenden Johnson, Craig Buckner, Hunter Razanauskas, Paul Johnson
Key Players Returning – Lucas Kantz, Zack Kercheval, Ramir Wallace, Riley Hinterleiter, Zyyir Lockett, Amir Jones
What to Expect – After cursing through the regular season, Mercyhurst Prep came up short in the District 10 title game a year ago, but they enter 2024 with no shortage of talent and look poised to make another run at the district crown. The Lakers will need to replace top receiving target in Ja’son Ellman, who caught a team-high 30 balls for 612 yards and ten scores. Along with Co-Region 2 player of the year Paul Johnson who transferred to Erie High. Johnson rushed for 891 yards while passing for 1335 yards and accounting for 37 total offensive touchdowns Jeremy Ganska, who rushed for a team-high 1197 yards and 16 touchdowns was also lost to graduation. Johnson, Ellman, and Ganska joined Steve Grayson and Sean Sokolowski as Region 2 first-team players. Sokolowski was also a first-team all-state 2A defensive lineman. Though Paul Johson is the only first-team Region 2 player returning, several underclassmen earned Region 2 honors, including Zach Kercheval, Ramir Wallace, Riley Hinterleiter, Zyyir Lockett, and Amir Jones. Lucas Kantz was selected as kicker of the year in Region 2.
Northwestern Wildcats
2023 Season – 2-8
Head Coach – Bill Henwood
Key Players Lost – Kolton Sutter, Kaleb Glasl, Greg Gruda, Lloyd Fountain
Key Players Returning – Braden Swift, Reese Gonzales, Brodie Mikovch, David White
What to Expect – Coming off a 2-8, Northwestern will look to rebound under second-year head coach Bill Henwood. The Wildcats will need to replace quarterback Lloyd Fountain, who passed for 1203 yards and five touchdowns while also leading the team in rushing with 433 yards and six scores. Northwestern brings back Braden Swift, Reese Gonzales, and Brodie Mikovch, who all had over 200 receiving yards as sophomores last season.
Seneca Bobcats
2023 Season – 4-6
Head Coach – Jack Corey
Key Players Lost – Nolan Seabury, Nick Smith
Key Players Returning – Dominic Buscemi, Joe Brennan, Isaiah Cadden, Austin Jacobs, Anthony Scalise, Rylan Harwood
What to Expect – Seneca will look to improve on their 4-6 record in 2023 and return to the postseason. The Bobcats return three Region 2 first-team players from a season ago in receiver Dominic Buscemi, lineman Joe Brennan, and linebacker Isaiah Cadden. Austin Jacobs returns as a second-team Region 2 player, while Buscemi and Brennan earned second-team Region 2 defensive back and defensive lineman, respectively. Seneca will need to replace quarterback Nolan Seabury, who accounted for 1763 yards of total offense and 21 total touchdowns – Seabury was a co-player of the year in Region 2.
Union City Bears
2023 Season – 3-6
Head Coach – Mike Wydro
Key Players Lost – Joe Pituch, Skylar Olmstead, Owen Kerns, Travis Mitcham, Jake Bahl, Austin Sherwood
Key Players Returning – Austin Brown, Aidan Shuman, Steven Klakamp, J.J. Karmazin
What to Expect – Union City comes into 2024 looking to build off a 3-6 season a year ago. The Bears will need to replace three Region 2 first-team players from last season, including Joe Pituch (OL), Skylar Olmstead (RB), and Owen Kerns (LB). On offense, Union City returns Austin Brown at tailback, who rushed for 198 yards. The Bears are losing 1351 rushing yards that Olmstead (916) and Kerns (435) gave them last season. Steven Klakamp, the team’s leading receiver, returns after six catches for 164 yards in 2023.
