District Nine Holds Media at St. Marys High School

District Nine held their Media Day Tuesday August 1st at the St. Marys High School.  Over 80 athletes from 22 different schools plus their coaches attended the event.  A full buffet breakfast was served before the teams met with the 15 or so media outlets.

Players and coaches alike are anxious to start practicing and get the season underway.  Team goals varied from winning records to district titles to having deep playoff runs.  Dear old ‘dad’ was the most popular role model among the players.  Asked what their maximum bench press was, the player response varied with quite a few maxing out at over 300 pounds and two attaining the 405 lb. plateau.

Coudersport is the favorite among coaches to capture the Region 3 crown, while Brockway and Central Clarion are the coaches choices to top Regions 2 and 1 respectively.  The consensus is that the way District 9 has split the teams into regions, no team appears to get a week off per se by playing a weaker opponent.  Every week will be competitive, and teams will need to be prepared and ready.  Also, due to a referee shortage many teams, but not all, will be playing at least one Thursday and one Saturday game in the 2023 season.
