The Downingtown East Cougars hosted the Avon Grove Red Devils Friday night at Kottmeyer Stadium.

Downingtown had an inadvertent “bye” last week as their bout with Academy Park was canceled and ruled a no contest due to unforeseen circumstances in Sharon Hill.

They did not miss a step as they defeated a tough, stocky Avon Grove team in whopping 49-0 shut out after scoring 42 points in the first half.

Downingtown stayed in true fashion and ran the ball efficiently. Ayden Harris finished the game with four touchdowns in the first half. Cougar’s players Michael Brown, Caden Walsh and Paxson Warnock who had a pick six, also contributed to scores in the game.

Downingtown East (7-0) enter into their toughest part of their schedule with Coatesville (6-2) next Friday and Downingtown West (7-0) the following week. The Avon Grove Red Devils move to (4-4) on the season and face Interboro (3-4) next Friday as well.
