There was a common theme today as I spoke to a number of teams about the upcoming season: everybody is “feeling good” about their situation and progress, and all are looking forward to the start of the season.
Lackawanna Trail Head Coach Steve Jervis likes what he is seeing so far from his team: “There’s certainly some experience on our offense, and we like where we are at right now.”

Delaware Valley appears to be in a mid-season form mentality after narrowly losing out on a 9th straight District championship last season. Senior RB Mike Iuzzolino said “We want to win as a group. We know what we have to do.”

Honesdale Head Coach George Howanitz likes what his team is doing: “We’ve got a good group together and we’re putting the work in.”

Will Mid Valley continue to show progress? Senior QB Brett Yanoski thinks the Spartans will do just that. “We like what we have on both sides of the ball. We have 3 of 5 offensive lineman back this season. We’ve been there before and feel that we can get back there again.”

Scranton Prep lost some key components but returns a lot of experience too, and they know what lies ahead. Senior WR/DB Will McPartland said “We lost some, but we also return a lot….and we know it is on us to do it.”

Abington Heights won the District 2 5A championship last year, and while they lost a few key players they will also have some big names back this year to defend that title and seek a deeper playoff run. Senior DL/TE Cayd Sespico noted “We only lost by 1 point on the road in the state playoffs. We have quite a few seniors this year, and we have plenty of experience especially behind center and on defense.”

Best of luck to all of the Lackawanna Conference teams this year. It’s going to be a great season!
