Lackawanna Trail RB Isaac Ryon had a gigantic night with 370 rushing yards and 5 rushing TD’s and the Lion defense swarmed all night.  The Lions led 27-0 at the half and 40-0 after 3 quarters and cruised to a 40-14 win that clinched the Lackawanna Conference Division 3 title for the 3rd year in a row.

The first quarter was essentially a defensive chess match to see who could stop the running game.  Early on, the Wing-T offense did not generate much positive yardage for Lackawanna Trail, but the Lion defense also looked very stout in stopping Riverside.  Toward the end of the 1st quarter, Lackawanna Trail had an extended drive going that gained a few first downs into Riverside territory.  It was then that RB Isaac Ryon made his presence known when he ran down the left sideline and broke several tackles on a 44-yard scoring run, and Trail took the lead 7-0 with 2:23 left in the 1st quarter.  After a quick defensive series Trail got the ball back and it was Ryon again, this time on a 79-yard run to up the Lions lead to 14-0 with 4 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

Riverside started the 2nd quarter and made a little headway but eventually stalled and punted it away.  Trail struck again quickly as Ryon scored on a 66-yard run to make it 20-0 Trail with 7:44 left in the half.  The Lions kept the pressure on from there as Ryon scored on the next Trail possession, this time a 60-yard run that made it 27-0 with 5:36 left in the half.  Riverside could not get anything going as the Trail defense continued to contain the Viking offense and we went to halftime at 27-0.

Lackawanna Trail received the 2nd half kickoff and it was more of the same from the Lions.  Ryon hit paydirt again on a 77-yard run to increase the Trail lead at 33-0 with 8:29 left in the 3rd quarter.  After another strong showing by the Lion defense, the offense moved the ball down the field on a sustained drive that was capped when RB Carter Edwards ran it in from 9-yards out to invoke the mercy rule and increase the Lackawanna Trail lead to 40-0 with 3:21 left in the 3rd quarter.

With backup players entering the game for both teams, Riverside finally got on the board when WR Nyjai Scott-Holt scored via a 2-yard run to make it 40-7 with 8:41 left in the game.  Riverside added another score late in the 4th, and the final score was 40-14.

Lackawanna Trail finished the regular season 9-1 and will head home to face Nativity BVM in a District 2/District 11 sub-regional semifinal next Friday.  Riverside fell to 8-2 and will face the visiting Dunmore Bucks next Friday in a District 2 Class 2A semifinal.
