Isaac Ryon has been named PFN’s PA Football Writers’ Class 1A All-State Player of the Year. He and Offensive Lineman Lucas Evans both made the all-state squad to cap a terrific year for the Lions.
Evans, a 6-3 265 lb stalwart for Trail, was a big (literally) reason that the Lions Wing-T offense performed so well this season. Whenever I spoke with Ryon or QB Tyler Jervis about the team’s performance this season, both immediately praised the play of the offensive line first and foremost. Evans, while named to the All State team on offense, also was a considerable force on the defensive line as well as he often got double-teamed and held his own which gave the Trail defense a great advantage in pursuit. A great year from a great young man, congratulations Lucas!

As for Ryon, what more can be said? On the season, 199 rushes for 2,876 yards and 49 rushing TD’s. Lackawanna Trail’s all-time rushing leader with 4,969 yards. Lackawanna Conference/LIAA all-time single season rushing yardage leader, single season rushing TD leader with 49, total TD leader with 54 and single season scoring leader with 354 points.
Let me catch my breath.

After a terrific junior season that came up short last year, Ryon was determined when I spoke to him at Lackawanna Football Conference media day, and Coach Steve Jervis simply smiled and said “Oh, yes” when I asked about the possibilities of a truly special year with Tyler and Isaac in their senior seasons. What we did not know at the time was how dominant a season Ryon would actually have and how many records would fall. An incredible and historic season for another great young man, congratulations Isaac!
