North Pocono played terrific defense and got over 200 yards on the ground while Abington Heights committed costly penalties that stagnated their offensive attack, and the Trojans defeated the Comets 24-10 in a battle of unbeatens. North Pocono WR Cole West got a key interception in the 1st quarter and had a big 54-yard TD run to get the Trojans on the board first, and RB Joe Briskie had over 120 yards rushing and a TD as well. Abington Heights QB Nick Bradley had over 250 yards passing and a rushing TD for the Comets.
After a hard fought 1st quarter that saw each team possess the ball twice, North Pocono struck on the first play of the 2nd quarter when WR Cole West broke a 54-yard run for the score, and the Trojans had a 7-0 lead with 11:37 to go in the 1st half. After a 3-and-out by Abington Heights, the Trojans got a great punt return from West to the Comet 37. The drive was then capped when QB Chase Zimmerman hit TE Matt Laboranti from 7 yards out to increase the Trojans lead at 14-0 with 7:24 left in the 1st half.

Abington Heights then had a nice drive that reached as far as the Trojan 18, but a scramble by Bradley under pressure lost the Comets 6 yards and later a sack of Bradley by Laboranti pushed the Comets back further. The ensuing punt was downed at the Trojan 1-yard line. Deep in their own territory, North Pocono was only able to get out to their own 15 and punted it away to give Abington Heights great field position at the Trojan 43. North Pocono’s defense stood tall however as they broke up several passes, and Abington Heights had to settle for a 29-yard field goal from K Jack Hartshorn as time expired in the half with North Pocono leading 14-3.
The Comets received the 2nd half kickoff, but a quick 3-and-out gave the ball back to the Trojans. North Pocono then executed a 16-play drive that was capped by a 32-yard field goal from K Shane Youngblood that extended North Pocono’s lead at 17-3. This drive was ultimately very costly for the Comets as it drained all but 56 seconds off of the 3rd quarter clock.
As the 3rd quarter gave way to the 4th quarter the Comets executed a lengthy 13-play drive that was hampered by 4 penalties. The drive ended when a 10-yard scramble by Bradley came up short of the line to gain and the Trojans took possession at their own 5. North Pocono could not get anything going at that point and punted the ball away to give the Comets great field position at the Trojan 42. The 6 play drive was capped when Bradley scored on a 5-yard run to make it 17-10 Trojans but with only 1:49 left in the 4th quarter.
North Pocono successfully fielded the onside kick attempt from the Comets, and from there it was all RB Joe Briskie for the Trojans. He had a big 40-yard run followed by a 5-yard run and then a 2-yard TD run to make it 24-10 Trojans and essentially sealed the win.
