North Pocono was stunned a bit early by the fast-paced offense that Delaware Valley started out with, then traded blows with the Warriors in a strong 2nd half to take it to overtime. In the extra frame, North Pocono made a huge stop on a 4th-and-goal from the 4 to get a 28-21 overtime win and clinch the Lackawanna Conference Division 1 title. QB Chase Zimmerman had 2 1-yard scoring runs and made the tackle on the final play to seal the win. WR Cole West and RB Josiah Gray also had scoring runs, while Delaware Valley RB Justin Estevez had 2 TD runs and RB Mike Iuzzolino had a TD run as well.
Delaware Valley took the opening kickoff and executed a fast-paced drive that took North Pocono by surprise. That drive was capped when RB Justin Estevez hit paydirt on a 2-yard run that gave Delaware Valley a 7-0 lead with 8:13 left in the 1st quarter. After trading several possessions it was the Trojans who executed their own drive from deep in their own territory, and WR Cole West tied the game when he took the snap on the wildcat and broke free for a 56-yard TD run that tied the game at 7 with 59 seconds left in the 1st quarter.
In the second quarter, a great individual effort on an interception by Delaware Valley DB Chris Devaney gave the Warriors the ball back. The ensuing drive was capped when Estevez scored on another 2-yard run to make it 14-7 Warriors with 3:21 left in the half. North Pocono could not get anything going on their next drive and went to the locker room to regroup.
The Trojans came out with some momentum in the 3rd quarter, and they executed a nice drive that resulted in a 1-yard keeper TD by QB Chase Zimmerman to tie the game at 14 with 6:22 left in the 3rd quarter. The Trojan defense came up big and stopped the Warriors, who punted it away. North Pocono then executed another calculated drive and Zimmerman hit again on another 1-yard keeper TD to give North Pocono the lead 21-14 with 31 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.
Driving to start the 4th quarter, Delaware Valley tied the game when RB Mike Iuzzolino broke away and scampered down the right sideline on a 59-yard TD run to tie the game at 21 with 9:38 left in the 4th quarter. The 2 teams traded defensive blows, with each squad stepping up big to stop the other. Delaware Valley then got something going late in the quarter but stalled at the North Pocono 31. The Warriors then brought on K Reagan Decker to attempt a 48-yard field goal. The snap and hold were good, and the kick had just enough distance but went wide left. North Pocono took over possession, but with little time left they could not get anything going and the game went to overtime.
Delaware Valley won the overtime coin toss and elected to go on defense first. North Pocono struck first when RB Josiah Gray scored on a 2-yard run and the Trojans took a 28-21 lead. Delaware Valley then had their turn and gained some yardage, but facing a 4th-and-goal at the 4 the pitch was to Iuzzolino who ran right on the stretch play. Unfortunately, the defense held when DB Chase Zimmerman made the hit to push Iuzzolino out of bounds at the 1-yard line to clinch the win for North Pocono and also clinch the Lackawanna Conference Division 1 title.
North Pocono improved to 9-0 and will head out to play Scranton Prep in the regular season finale. Delaware Valley will look to get back in the win column next week as they head to Pen Fed Field to face Scranton.
