Peters Township stayed unbeaten with a 42 to 14 win over Bethel Park on Friday night, using a dominant second half and a standout showing from senior running back Cole Neupaver to move on to the WPIAL Class 5A semifinals.
Peters opened the scoring with a one yard dive from Neupaver, but Bethel Park responded with a strong answer. The Black Hawks put together a 10 play, 87 yard drive capped by a three yard touchdown run from David Dennison to tie the game. On their next possession, Bethel Park struck again on a long touchdown pass on third and 12, taking a 14 to 7 lead.
Peters Township evened the score just before halftime when Nolan DiLucia connected with Neupaver from seven yards out with 11 seconds remaining, sending the game into the break tied at 14.
The turning point came early in the third quarter. Peters took a 21 to 14 lead, but Bethel Park mounted an impressive drive and marched deep into the red zone looking to tie the game. That threat ended abruptly when the Black Hawks lost a fumble near the goal line, shifting all momentum to Peters Township. From that moment on, the Indians controlled every phase of the game.
Peters capitalized immediately, scoring on back to back possessions, including another short Neupaver run. The Indians defense then forced multiple second half turnovers, repeatedly stopping Bethel Park drives and giving the offense short fields that helped put the game out of reach. Neupaver finished with five total touchdowns, four rushing and one receiving.
With the win, Peters Township improves to 11 and 0 and advances to a semifinal rematch against Upper St. Clair. Bethel Park’s season comes to an end as the undefeated Indians move into the WPIAL final four.
