How can it be that we’ve reached the midpoint of the 2025 season already? It seems like just yesterday that we were here gearing up for the opening week of the season, and now we are at the midpoint, and it needs to slow down. The leaves are changing colors, we are starting to separate the contenders from the pretenders, and soon we will be discussing Playoffs. Now it’s time to look at What’s Cookin’ In Philly.
No No No No Not Today: The Chester Clippers are sitting at a perfect 5-0 this season, although the Clippers have played 4 games so far this season, with their fifth victory coming via forfeit. The Clippers have yet to yield a single point this season. That’s right, folks, not one team has been able to put anything on the scoreboard against the Clippers. The shutouts this season have brought the career total for Defensive Coordinator Anthony “Sam” Moss up to 20 career shutouts.
Milestone for Springfield Britton: After having their game against Upper Darby being forced to be moved to Monday afternoon due to a bomb, the Springfield Cougars didn’t let that dampen their spirits, defeating the Royals 48-19 to give Cougars’ Head Coach Chris Britton his 100th career win. You can read more about the milestone here.
Date and Time Change for Ridley-Upper Darby: Due to the Upper Darby game that was originally scheduled for last Friday being pushed up to Monday, the Ridley at Upper Darby game originally scheduled for Friday at 5 pm has been pushed back to Saturday morning with an 11 am kickoff.
Something Brewing in West Chester: There is something special brewing in the West School District. All three teams in the District East, Rustin and Henderson, are sitting with identical 4-1 records. All three teams, along with Great Valley, make up the Chest-Mont Central Division and will kick off Central Division play on October 10 when East travels to Henderson. East will then host Rustin on October 17, while Rustin will host Henderson on October 24.
Garnet Valley Honored: During their practice on Wednesday, the Garnet Valley Jaguars football program was honored by the Travis Manion Foundation as a “Team of Character” program. The team was honored for their commitment to leadership, integrity, and service, and is the result of assistant coach Dave Wrzeniewski and the many community services the Jaguars do throughout the year.
One True Champ: This season, the Philadelphia Public League has changed its playoff format to where they will be crowning one champion. You can read Anthony Franklin’s story about the playoffs here.
Check out J Man’s View: In my career, I have been inspired by many people, and it seems as if I inspired one of my good friends, Jared or J Man, to begin his own weekly notes column for District 2, and I highly recommend you give his column a read. You can read this week’s here
Eagles Honor Edwards: After starting their first varsity season with two straight losses, the Universal Audenreid Charter Rockets have really blasted off, putting together a 3-game winning streak. For their effort, the Rockets Head Coach Roy-Al Edwards has been the High School Coach of the week by the Philadelphia Eagles. Edwards has a special connection to the Eagles after a stellar career at Strath Haven. Edwards went on to play collegiately at IUP, where he was recruited by then Wide Receivers Coach Nick Sirianni, who, of course, is now the Eagles Head Coach.
