Riverside outlasts Dunmore in OT thriller

Riverside and Dunmore traded punches all night, but it was the Vikings who were still standing at the end when Kicker Santino D’Amico drilled a 22-yard field goal in overtime to defeat the Bucks 17-14 at Dunmore Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Dunmore received the opening kickoff and drained 8:23 off the clock as 6 different Bucks ran the ball on the opening drive. The effort was capped when RB Jackson Harding scored from 3 yards out to give Dunmore an early 7-0 lead with 3:27 remaining in the 1st quarter. Riverside’s Brayden Rose then took the ensuing kickoff back 90 yards for the touchdown to tie the game at 7 with 3:12 left in the 1st quarter.
Dunmore answered on their next drive when QB Weston Yannone had a beautiful 32-yard weaving run through traffic and broke several tackles as he got into the end zone. Dunmore then led 14-7 with 7:12 left in the 1st half. Riverside again answered right away when WR Jared Jackson took the direct snap and ran right down the middle of the Buck defense for a 46-yard scamper that again tied the game with 5:29 left in the half.
The remainder of the 1st half and most of the 3rd and 4th quarters were penalty-filled and there was a lot of cramping due to the hot temperatures. With under 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, Riverside had a great opportunity to take the lead but D’Amico missed a potential game-field goal from 38 yards as it sailed wide left.
In overtime, Dunmore possessed the ball first but fumbled the ball into the end zone which was recovered by Riverside. 3 plays late, D’Amico drilled it from 22 yards out for the win.
Riverside now heads home to play Hanover Area, while Dunmore heads on the road to play Old Forge.
