It was a great year for Scranton Knights QB/FS Billy Maloney. On the offensive side, he rushed for 975 yards with 10 TD’s and had 94 completions for 1293 yards and 11 TD’s. But on the defensive side of the ball, Maloney made his mark–during the regular season, he had 75 tackles and 10 passes defensed with 2 interceptions. That is where he will look to make his mark at the next level as a preferred walk-on, as Maloney has committed to attending Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA and hopes to make the Griffins Football team.
I spoke to Maloney about what made him decide on Seton Hill: “The campus is beautiful, and I really enjoyed the visit. The coaches were well aware of what I had done in high school and were interested in me contributing on defense. I have a friend who goes there, and he spoke very highly of the school which made me feel really good about my decision.”
Maloney’s parents were very much a part of the decision as well. “My dad is really proud of me” said Maloney. “He saw how hard I have worked for the last 3 years and he is excited about me going to Seton Hill. My mom was the one who visited the campus with me and she fell in love with it immediately.” He also spoke about the recruiting process: “I really enjoyed the recruiting process, I soaked it all in and asked questions. It was a great experience. My principal told me to enjoy it and take my time, and I feel like I did just that.”
For now, Maloney is preparing for Track & Field season in the spring and hopes to compete in the Long Jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash for Scranton. Best of luck in the future, Billy!
