Scranton Prep and Wyoming Area played an early chess match over who could stop the running game of the other, and once that was settled it was the Cavaliers that ripped it open in a 42-0 dominating win over the Warriors. QB Will McPartland had 2 rushing TD’s and a passing TD, and RB Anthony Prince added 2 late rushing TD’s to solidify the win.
Early on, the Warrior defense rose up to the occasion and stopped Prep in their tracks. But on the opposite end, the Cavalier defense stood tall as well and shut down Wyoming Area’s offense. Midway through the 1st quarter, Scranton Prep had a sustained drive and got on the board with a 4-yard run by QB Will McPartland to make it 7-0 Cavaliers with 7:23 left in the 1st quarter.
Wyoming Area then had a nice drive going with alternating runs by RB Nick Ciampi and QB Jack Gravine but the drive eventually stalled and Prep got the ball back. As the 2nd quarter got underway, it was the “McPartland connection” of QB Will to WR Braedon for a huge gain down to the 19 of Wyoming Area. Several plays later Will McPartland cashed in again on another run, this time a 16-yard dash to make it 14-0 Cavaliers with 8:53 left in the half.
On the ensuing kickoff, miscommunication occurred with the Warriors as nobody went after the live ball and Prep’s Brandon Farmer was there to recover the live ball and retain possession for the Cavaliers. They struck again right away, and this time it was WR Noah Krzywiec on a 25-yard stretch play run to paydirt that increased Prep’s lead to 21-0 with 8:36 left in the half. Wyoming Area appeared to have new life when DB Luke Kopetchny made a terrific juggling interception near the sideline to get the ball back for the Warriors, but the ensuing offensive possession stalled and Prep got the ball back. The Cavaliers drove into Warrior territory and this time it was WR AJ Croom who hit the jackpot, scoring on a tough 22-yard run where he broke several tackles on the way to the endzone. At halftime, Scranton Prep had a 28-0 lead.
Wyoming Area received the second half kickoff but again was stifled by the Prep defense. The Cavaliers then drove quickly and scored again quickly, and this time it was RB Anthony Prince on a 5-yard run to give Prep a 35-0 lead. With the running clock now invoked, backups then entered the game for both teams. Scranton Prep did manage one additional score when Prince broke on a long run down the right sideline for the final score of the game. The Cavaliers were triumphant by a 42-0 score.
Wyoming Area finished their season at 9-2. Scranton Prep improved to 6-5 and will now head down to Berwick to face the 11-0 Bulldogs for the District 2 Class 3A championship.
