Another great week of high school football went past in the District 6. There were a lot of blowouts, but there were also some very close contests around the area. Let’s take a look at these top games from week 2.
Juniata Knocks Off Steelton-Highspire
Steelton-Highspire was on a 28 game winning streak heading into Friday’s contest against Juniata, but the Indians were able to knock them off with a thrilling 29-14 victory.
Juniata quarterback Wyatt Ehrenzeller led the Inidans to victory with a passing touchdown to Connor Boreman and two rushing touchdowns. Javier Lopez also had a rushing touchdown in the win. Steelton-Highspire entered the 2nd quarter with a 14-0 lead, but after that, the Juniata offense took over.
Mount Union Upsets Berlin-Brothersvalley
The Mount Union Trojans stayed undefeated with an 20-7 upset win over Berlin-Brothersvalley. Before the loss, Berlin was the fifth ranked team in 2A, which makes this win very big for Mount Union.
The Trojan defense was very strong and prevented Berlin from scoring multiple times. The offense was even better with Nasir Collins leading the charge. He ran for 171 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Maddox Hobbs also ran for a touchdown.
Glendale Comes Back To Beat Meyersdale
The Glendale Vikings again survive a close battle to remain undefeated. This time the Vikings beat Meyersdale with a final score of 14-13, with the game winning touchdown coming in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Logan Skebeck threw a touchdown to Rhylan Hoopsick-Bell in the fourth quarter to give Glendale a lead. Skebeck also came up clutch on defense with a pass deflection on fourth down, giving Glendale the win.
Bellwood-Antis Takes Down Westmont-Hilltop
The Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils continued their impressive start to the season with a 20-10 victory over the Westmont-Hilltop Hilltoppers.
This game was a 6-3 game heading into the fourth quarter before Bellwood scores two touchdowns. Colin Gibbons and Holden Schreier both ran for touchdowns in the victory.
Central Defeats Somerset
The Central Dragons got back to their winning ways with a 20-13 win against Somerset. This marks the first win for new Head Coach Jerry Albright.
It was a 7-7 game heading into halftime, but then Eli Muthler connects with Jay Hoenstine for two touchdowns. Braydon Beach also ran for a touchdown in this big win for Central.
