TRAP WEEK

Every year teams face games they seemingly should win, but for some reason they do not. There is usually something outside of the white lines that effects one or both of the teams; previous games, an upcoming game, Homecoming dances, and upcoming games to name a few of the distractions that high school teams face. Just the fact that the teams are made up of fourteen to eighteen year old boys with raging hormones, makes it easy to believe that keeping a team’s focus is a difficult task, add in outside variables such as rivalries, social media chirping, SAT testing taking and all of a sudden games that seemed like sure things, go the other way in a hurry. If you went simply by win/loss records or the size of schools this week, according to our “expert” prognosticator’s crystal balls, your picks will not do very well this week.

One of the more interesting games on the docket has the Golden Knights of West Chester Rustin traveling down the Lincoln Highway to take on the Red Raiders of Coatesville. Rustin comes in to the ChesMont crossover game 4-0, the back-to-back D1 5A finalist have looked very impressive in the early going. Coatesville, the perennial D1 6A powerhouse has started the season winning 4 of its first 5 games. The interesting twist in this game is after Coatesville dominated Rustin in West Chester last year 36-7 on the field, due to a nonqualified player Coatesville was later forced to forfeit the game. Coatesville also will get a couple of their players back, who have missed some games to injury.

You have the picks of the best team of high school football reporters in the country, see how you fare against the gang.
