With several D1 offers in hand, La Salle linebacker Dillon Trainer didn’t need much of a push when Delaware extended an offer to him in early June.  He knew that’s the place he wanted to play, and made the decision earlier this week.

We caught up with Dillon and asked him about his commitment:

PFN: How long have you played football?

Football has been a part of me my entire life in all honesty. I truly began playing in an organized league during 6th grade.

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Blue Hens?

I saw the opportunity to not only win championships but do it along side my brother and a remarkable group of players and coaches. The facilities and overall university are incredible and it’s somewhere I am excited to call home.

PFN: Why commit early?

I knew from the beginning of this process I would jump on the opportunity to decide on a school, wherever it may be, when I got the feeling of comfort in calling it home. When I visited Delaware and got a feeling for the atmosphere and people, coaches and players alike, I instantly that “home” feeling and figured why wait?

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Delaware, who recruited you?

My brother had a big influence on me. He plays linebacker there now and genuinely discussed how awesome it would be to play along side each other. His friends also threw their reasons as to why I should pick the Hens as well haha. As for coaches, all of them actually. Their energy and overall character speaks volumes to me and they are all a group of men I know I will love to play for.

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

Throughout recruiting, I have been able to realize something: everyone loves recruiting, but not everyone loves football. It’s easy for a kid to say he loves the game when a school lays out flashy gloves and helmets for him to try on during a visit. But it’s the kids that embrace the hours of film and routine workouts that truly love the game. I truly believe from my end, Delaware is getting a player that genuinely loves the game of football in its entirety and isn’t there for the glitz and glamor.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

The process was truly a learning experience for me. I was able to see which coaches were genuine and straight forward in their delivery as to what they had to offer, and I was able to see the “used car salesmen” in some as well.

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

My area of study is not entirely certain, but I’m leaning towards English or psychology.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Delaware program?

I think the most exciting thing about the program is the energy and genuine love of football seen by everyone involved in the organization. The coaching staff pours all of themselves into this team and it shows. The energy is contagious and because of it, I think we are going to have great success, including national championships in the near future.

PFN: Tell everyone out there in Blue Hen land something they’d never know about you until you told them:

Don’t know to be honest

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

My father influenced me most. Growing up in the same house as a 29- year college coach was incredible for me. He taught me an abundance of information about the game and drove me hard, knowing my ceiling of potential was higher than I could acknowledge.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

I don’t think there is anything to say here that I wouldn’t be comfortable saying in person. Delaware is home and at the end of the day, the decision to commit was in my hands. I love the University and cannot wait to begin my career as a Hen.
