The Penns Valley Rams and Huntingdon Bearcats faced off in a Mt. League battle of the quarterbacks Friday night. Penns Valley’s Aaron Tobias and Huntington’s Nick Troha battled all night but Tobias came out with the victory. Tobias finished the game with 270 yards passing with 4 touchdowns and adding 125 yards on the ground with a huge 91-yard touchdown late in the first quarter. Troha threw for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night.

The Huntingdon Bearcats came out swinging in tonight’s game as on the second play Troha found junior receiver Darin Harman for a 56 yard gain down to the 3. Two plays later senior Derrick Fultz took the ball from 3 yards out for the Bearcat touchdown. The point-after attempt (PAT) was good, making the score 7-0 Bearcats with 10:31 to go in the first quarter. However, they didn’t hold the lead much longer as the ensuing kickoff was taken 89 yards to the house by Penns Valley junior Stephen Ripka. The PAT was good tying the score at 7. After Huntingdon’s opening series they failed to drive down the field and resulted in back to back drives resulting in punts. The Rams were successful in converting their field position into points. With 6:04 left in the first quarter, Tobias hit senior Austin Fisher for a 6-yard touchdown. The PAT was good, making the score 14-7. The next Rams possession only took 1 play to score. Tobias took the ball to the right side and scampered for a 91-yard touchdown. This made the score 21-7 after a successful PAT with 2:29 to go in the first quarter.

The Rams had possession of the ball to start the second quarter and drove down the field to the Bearcats 5 yard line. Tobias hit Fisher for the 5-yard touchdown with 11:52 to go in the second quarter. The PAT was good, making the score 28-7 Rams. The Bearcats drove down the field the ensuing possession. They got down to the Rams 1 yard line however, The Penns Valley defense held the Bearcats to a 4th and goal from the 1 and couldn’t punch it in giving the Rams the ball at the 1-yard line. A few plays later after Tobias creating breathing room he found Gage Ripka for a huge 72 yard gain down to the Bearcat 6 yard line. The next play Tobias hit Stephen Ripka for a 6-yard touchdown. When attempting the PAT there was a bad snap in which Tobias picked it up, rolled to the right and found Fisher for the 2 point conversion. This made the score 36-7 Rams with 4:09 to go in the second quarter. The Bearcats reached the end zone their following drive when Troha found Fultz from 32 yards out. This made the score 36-13 and after a successful PAT, the score was 36-14 with 1:21 to go in the second quarter. This gave the Rams just enough time to drive down the field to end the half. The Rams took the ball down to the 37-yard line with just 4 seconds to go. Gage Ripka came out to attempt the kick However, Tobias would receive the ball to hold stand up and throw a 37-yard strike to Fisher to close out the half. The PAT was good, making the halftime score 43-14 Rams.

To begin the second half both offenses struggled. The Bearcats woke up this half and began to drive the ball down the field while trying to battle the Rams defense. The first score of the second half came with 2:25 in the third quarter when Troha found leading receiver Andrew Miller for a 16-yard touchdown. The PAT was good, making the score 43-21 Rams. The next scoring drive would be Troha connecting with Miller again this time from 36 yards out. This made the score 43-28 after a successful PAT with 7:18 to go in the fourth quarter. Penns Valley’s Wyatt Shawver closed out the game with an interception with little over a minute left in the game. When asking Tobias about the struggle in the second half his answer was simple: “ It was hard

in the second half. The first half we had things rolling and we came out flat. We never really picked things up we just trusted our defense to make stops and hold us in this game”. Tobias would throw 2 interceptions in the second half as they were his first two interceptions of the season after throwing for over 1,000 yards and 28 touchdowns. The Huntingdon Bearcats falls to 1-4 on the season and will face Bishop Carroll next Friday. The Rams improve to 4-1 and will face Midd-West next Friday.
