Cardinal O’Hara gets the win over West Philadelphia 34-6 to take home their first District XII City Championship title. The Lions scored early as Senior running back Amahj Gowans got in for the touchdown; Gowans would go onto score the next two touchdowns for Cardinal O’Hara, including his second in the first half that would be the Lions lone two scores in the first half. Cardinal O’Hara may have had a 13-0 lead in the first half but it felt like a slow start for the Lions.

O’Hara would start to pull away in the second half , starting off hot with another Gowans touchdown as I stated before. This would be quickly followed up by a West Philadelphia touchdown from A’kar Archer, but after that it was all Cardinal O’Hara for the rest of the game. Quarterback John Welde would take it in himself with 7 minutes left in the game to put the Lions up 27-6 after the extra point, and soon followed up after that Welde would connect to Junior Braylon Harris to put them up at 34-6.

After the game we had Gowans give us his thoughts going into their next matchup and what they had to do moving forward, “staying locked in, staying dialed in, you know, let’s have a great week of practice.” Cardinal O’Hara will now take on  North Pocono in the 4A Quarterfinals on Friday November, 21st at Whitehall.
